Summary

OnCommand Unified Manager for Linux versions 7.2 though 7.3 ship with the Java Debug Wire Protocol (JDWP) enabled which allows unauthorized local attackers to execute arbitrary code.

Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to unauthorized local arbitrary code execution.

Workarounds

NOTE: This action plan must be performed as root or an equivalent account.
1) Edit the following file and comment out the line ‘DEBUG_PORT=”8787”’ with a leading ‘#’ (i.e. #DEBUG_PORT=”8787”).
/opt/netapp/essentials/jboss/bin/standalone.sh
2) Edit the following two files and using # comment out this line: ‘addOrReplaceJavaOpts "-agentlib:jdwp=transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=${DEBUG_PORT}"’
/opt/netapp/ocum/safecopy/opt/netapp/essentials/jboss/bin/conf/20_um.conf
/opt/netapp/essentials/jboss/bin/conf/20_um.conf
3) Ensure that each file is saved with the appropriate lines commented.
4) Restart the services by rebooting the server.
5) Once the server has restarted verify that that the changes were successful using the following command - no output indicates success.
$ ps -fade | grep java | grep -i agentlib
