CVE-2017-7947 Information Disclosure Vulnerability in clustered Data ONTAP

Summary

All versions of clustered Data ONTAP prior to 8.3.2P11, 9.0P4, and 9.1P5 log passwords for the following list of 7-Mode commands when run from the clustershell using system node run:

  • useradmin user add
  • useradmin user modify
  • iscsi security add
  • iscsi security default
  • vfiler dr configure
  • vfiler dr resync
  • vfiler migrate
  • ndmpcopy
  • config clone

All users are urged to move to a fixed version and change passwords entered into clustered Data ONTAP via the manner specified above as a precaution.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability may lead to disclosure of sensitive information.

Workarounds

To prevent passwords from being logged, run any 7-Mode nodeshell commands from the nodeshell. Do not enter them from the clustershell using system node run.
